Whygo2 Cyprus
Letsgo2 employees have traveled extensively to the destinations we feature. Here are the five main reasons they would consider a visit to Cyprus.
Beaches
With a wealth of beaches to choose from, you are bound to find one that suits your taste. There are fine white sandy beaches with shallow turquoise waters, or deep water bays with rocky outcrops perfect for snorkeling or diving. Long stretches of coastline lend themselves to jogging, while secluded coves beckon when you want to be alone. From the quiet backwaters of the western peninsula, to the lively resorts in the east, the island has something for everyone.
Heritage & Festivals
Experience at first hand one of the oldest civilisations of the world dating back 10,000 years. Long coveted by foreign powers due to its strategic position at the crossroad between three continents, the island is like a large open air museum where you can see evidence of its chequered past. The wealth of culture is everywhere visible, the ruins of Kourion, with its ancient theatre where concerts and plays still proudly take place, the Sanctuary of Aphrodite, the antiquities of Paphos, the Neolithic settlement of Khirokitia and ten Byzantine churches in the Troodos are part of the World Cultural List of UNESCO. And since the people of Cyprus love to celebrate their traditions, cultural and religious festivals are held throughout the year. Some have ancient origins, others are steeped in history and tradition, whilst some simply reflect the culture of today.
Flavours of Cyprus
Whilst you can enjoy all your home favourites in the islands restaurants, it is the local cuisine that makes a visit to Cyprus so enjoyable. Cypriot cuisine is closely related to that of Greece, but the islands unique position at the crossroads of Europe, Africa and the Middle East has added exotic dimensions that make it particularly varied and delicious. The traditional meze meal consisting of up to 30 different dishes is the perfect way to sample Cypriot cuisine. Try also some local beer or one of the excellent wines of the island.
Active Holidays
The area around Paphos is becoming increasingly popular for its golf courses. There are three diverse courses to choose from. All within easy reach of Paphos, the courses are well-maintained and the service is excellent. Those who like hiking, there are numerous hiking trails in the Troodos Mountain range winding through pine woods and vineyards offering a variety of vast panoramic views and scenery. For those who prefer wheels to walking, the island can be discovered by cycling along many interesting trails on the Akamas Peninsula and the hills of Troodos massif. Cyprus is also an ideal choice for those who enjoy water sports such as swimming, sailing, yachting, surfing, diving and waterskiing.
Spa & Wellness
Take holiday relaxation one step further and treat yourself to a fabulous and truly wonderful experience. Luxurious spas can be found in many of the top hotels. Whether you are venturing into a spa for the first time or are already a veteran you will find something to pamper and rejuvenate among the endless treatments and varying levels of luxury.
